Lesson 4: 1988-97 The Road to the Good Friday Agreement

Lesson Description This lesson looks at the initiatives that took place from 1998-1997 including the Hume-Adams talks and subsequently the Downing Street Declaration and the Framework Document. Lesson Intentions 1. Understand how the Hume-Adams talks created new understandings around what was possible if the IRA ended its campaign. 2. Acknowledge the role of the Downing Street Declaration in creating the conditions for the 1994 IRA & Loyalist ceasefires. Lesson Outcomes Be able to explain how the Hume-Adams talks created the context for the political initiatives which followed.
